How to get the title

At the end of first and second academic year, a commission will interview each student on his/her scientific activity during that year. The Commission will report to the Scientific Committee, that will decide on the admission of the student to the next year by considering the record of exams and the results of his/her research.
-
At the end of the third year, the PhD student presents their research activity to a committee of the Faculty, which decides on admission to the final examination.
-
The PhD thesis is written in English. It is expected that the research work for the thesis will result in publications in peer-reviewed journals. A thesis without publications will generally not be considered acceptable.
-
With the approval of the supervisors, the thesis is sent to two reviewers. The evaluators must be highly qualified experts in the field of the doctoral project. If the thesis is deemed suitable, the process proceeds to the next step. If the reviewers request minor revisions, the next step can be carried out after incorporating the suggested changes. If major revisions are required, the thesis is returned to the reviewers after revision.
-
After finalizing the thesis, the student must complete the end-of-course AlmaLaurea questionnaire at https://www.almalaurea.it/servizi-per-chi-studia-e-si-laurea/questionario-fine-corso. The student must attach the certificate of completion provided by AlmaLaurea to the thesis and the final evaluation of the reviewers. The Faculty must review the certificate before determining the date and committee for the final examination. The certificate must then be sent to the Doctoral Section along with the resolution to enable the Rectoral appointment of the committee
-
The PhD student may defend the thesis in a 40-minute presentation before a committee appointed by the Rector, consisting of one internal member from the University and two external members.
