Course objectives
Biorefinery is a sustainable means of generating multiple bioenergy products from various biomass feedstocks through the incorporation of relevant conversion technologies. With the increased attention of circular economy in the past half-decade with the emphasis of holistically addressing economic, environmental, and social aspects of the industrial-sector, biorefinery acts as a strategic mechanism for the realization of a circular bioeconomy.
The course focuses on the critical analysis on how biorefinery is instrumental in the transition of various biomass-based industries in a circular bioeconomy.

Results of learning outcomes
By the end of the Course, the students will:
-have a knowledge of the products that can be obtained through a biorefinery, in comaprison with a oil traditional refinery.
-have a knowledge of the main enabling technologies for process intensification of a biorefinery
-have an overview on the already existing industrial biorefineries

Course delivery
This year, the Course will be held in presence, at Campus Luigi Einaudi (CLE) Room: 3 D1 36
The students not able to be in the classroom could follow remotely at the following link: https://unito.webex.com/meet/silvia.tabasso
Lessons will be "live" and attendance of at least 70% is mandatory.
Students who are interested in attending the Course must register on-line so that the teacher will be able to contact them via e-mail with all necessary information: links to lessons, scripts, slides, etc.

Learning assessment methods
The type of examination will entail an oral discussion with all students presenting and sharing with the class, individually or in groups, a case study describing an already existing industrial biorefinery, and the commercialization of the products.
