Program
Packaging features: protection, storage, containment, marketing and information. Packaging materials: plastics, paper and cardboard, glass and metals, barrier characteristics and properties. Laminates.
Plastic materials for packaging. Polymers: homopolymers and copolymers, structure of polymers. Brief overview on the synthesis of polymers. How big is a polymer molecule? Thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. Crystalline and amorphous polymers. Glass transition. Barrier properties.
Paper, properties and production process. Glass, glass constituents and glass transition, production process. Metals: aluminum, tin, chromed steel.
Material recycling aspects regarding the reduction of the environmental impact of solid waste. Recycling of materials used in packaging in Italy and Europe. Circular economy. European and national data on paper, glass, aluminium and plastic recycling. The problem of plastic.
